Putting the Cool in Cold Climate Polymer
Global Environmental Solutions has been globally recognized for their proprietary DirtGlue® Regular polymer (DGRp), a liquid concentrate that, when diluted with water and applied to the soil surface, bonds the individual soil particles together. The soil/aggregate then dries to form a “crust” (like ice on snow) that strengthens the surface of the soil preventing dust and erosion for extended periods of time; providing soil erosion control and embankment stabilization. All DirtGlue® polymers contain no harmful chemicals, will not adversely affect people, animals or aquatic life. However, one limitation of DGRp and most other soil binder products is that they require curing temps >50°F.
DG Cool™ polymer (DGCp) is engineered to cure in temps as low as 32°F / 0°C. Moreover, it cures as a comparably tough, but more flexible crust, than DGRp. This leaves additional pliability if the soil settles and reduces the risk of crust cracking either from settling or from very cold temperatures.
DirtGlue® polymers feature UV stabilization and extreme water-resistance for long-term control (years, decades) and penetrates the surface binding with the soil to form a tough, durable, three-dimensional matrix layer of protection and soil stabilization. Combining superior film strength and adhesive properties, DGCp is the ideal solution for dust control, erosion control and sediment control in non-traffic areas, stockpile capping, and stabilizing slopes and embankments when applying in cool climates.
Application rates of DG Cool™ can be customized to meet any requirement. Application rates can be adjusted from less than 100 gallons per acre to over 800 gallons of concentrate per acre depending upon performance requirements and lifespan expectations. The application rate of the concentrate determines the longevity and water permeability of the material being treated. At low application rates the application will allow water to percolate through the DGCp crust, but the polymer itself is hydrophobic and does not absorb water. Low application rates are used in hydroseed/hydromulch applications as a tackifier that will prevent washouts even in the most severe weather. Heavy applications can act as a spray on tarp such that rain/water will sheet off rather than percolate. Stockpile capping at 275-300G/acre is sufficient for a year or more of erosion and sediment control. At higher application rates, the polymer crust can last a decade or more.
All DirtGlue® liquid concentrates are fully water miscible. Appropriate dilution rate is determined by soil type (fine/silt to coarse/porous) and moisture content. The dilution ratio for dry, porous soils can be 3 to 5 parts water to 1 part DGCp. For clay/silt soils the dilution rate can be 6 to 8 parts water to 1 part DGCp. Surface spray applications (dust control, sediment control, erosion control, stockpile capping) should not be applied when rain is imminent. Allow 24 hours curing time before an application is subjected to rain events.
Vehicle and foot traffic will disturb the DGCp polymer bonds and revert the soil to its natural state. DGCp requires curing temps above 32 degrees Fahrenheit. High relative humidity (RH) and/or low temps will extend the curing time.
