Permanent Pothole Repair
PotHoleGlue™ is specifically formulated to produce a catalytic reaction to create a powerful, durable, and easy-to-apply solution for repairing potholes. The three-component system boasts excellent bonding capabilities to fine particles, asphalt, aggregate, and other applicable substrate. PotHoleGlue (PHG) possesses superb curing characteristics at or above freezing temperatures, which is ideal during the winter months – the peak season for such road blemishes. And, like all of GES products, PHG is environmentally friendly, and a cost-effective solution which is a superb alternative to conventional, eco-harmful, and less effective methods such as a cold patch.
PotHoleGlue is shipped in micronized powder form to be used with RAP/Aggregate (3/8” minus Recycled Asphalt or similar aggregate with minimum 20% “fines”). Then blended at a ratio of 1:6 to 1:7 of PHG:Aggregate. Then 1.5 ounces of water per dry pound of PHG are added and mixed to create a moist but not watery blend. This mixture is filled into the pothole with a very slight crown and compacted.
Potholes should be dry and clean of all debris. If pothole is contaminated with water or debris, clean and/or heat to dry before application. Pothole patches should be three inches (3") or less in thickness (depth). If the pothole is more than 3" deep, fill to 2"-3" below surface with recycled asphalt and compact. PHG requires air and substrate temperatures ABOVE FREEZING during and for at least 5 hours after application. Once cured, the PHG mixture will have similar or greater durability and hardness asphalt or concrete and is highly unlikely to rupture or erode.
To help ensure patch permanence and good seal at seams, a 50% dilution of DirtGlue® Industrial can be added to the edges and base of the pothole in advance of the PHG/aggregate mixture. The DGI acts as a tackifier at the seam of the old and new material.
